The Senior Cloud Data and Analytics Engineer is a senior technical role responsible for operating, enhancing, and extending a cloud-native data estate on Microsoft Fabric that supports the organization’s growth at scale. The role matures the OneLake lakehouse and pipeline foundation and builds the standardized, analytics-ready (“gold”) data layer and certified business-metric definitions. Working within HealthDrive’s HIPAA and PHI safeguards at all times, this individual partners with Finance and Operations to translate Value-Based Care and business-performance questions into trusted, reusable data models that power the organization’s analytics and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, enhance, and extend HealthDrive’s cloud data platform on Microsoft Fabric, including the OneLake lakehouse, a medallion (bronze/silver/gold) architecture, and the Fabric Data Warehouse.
  • Build and orchestrate batch and streaming ingestion pipelines that land raw clinical, operations, and financial data into OneLake, using Fabric Data Factory and Spark notebooks.
  • Maintain and extend the standardized clinical, operations, and finance data model (including claims data) in dbt, executing transformations within the Fabric Warehouse to produce a consistent, analytics-ready gold layer, and develop new data models as analytics needs grow.
  • Develop curated gold-layer datasets and certified semantic models in Microsoft Fabric that power financial, revenue, quality, territory, and provider-performance analytics and executive KPI reporting.
  • Establish canonical, governed business-metric definitions in the platform as the single source of truth for all downstream consumption.
  • Implement and enforce PHI governance — access controls, data lineage, cataloging, and auditability — using Microsoft Purview and Fabric-native controls.
  • Partner with the VP of IT, the Software Development Manager (owner of the source data warehouse), the business analysis function, and the operations and finance teams to align the data platform to business and technical needs.
  • (Nice to have) Prototype and operationalize machine learning and generative AI use cases, including feature pipelines and model deployment, in support of upcoming data science needs.

Qualifications

  • Deep, hands-on expertise with Microsoft Fabric (OneLake, Lakehouse, Data Warehouse, Data Factory, Synapse Data Engineering) and strong overall Azure fluency.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and SQL for data engineering and transformation.
  • Production experience with dbt for modular, testable transformation pipelines.
  • Sound grasp of lakehouse and medallion architecture, pipeline orchestration, and data-quality practices.
  • Working knowledge of sourcing data from an existing on-premises Microsoft SQL Server data warehouse.
  • Experience handling healthcare data across clinical, operational, and financial domains under HIPAA, with disciplined PHI handling.
  • Working knowledge of Value-Based Care analytics, with fluency in healthcare financial and operational concepts — sufficient to model and reason about revenue, cost, quality, and provider performance, not merely engineer the pipelines beneath them.
  • (Nice to have) Good knowledge of Power BI semantic modeling and dataset design, including Direct Lake and gold-layer enablement.
  • (Nice to have) General AI/ML capability — the ability to build and code both traditional machine learning and generative AI models.
  • (Nice to have) Familiarity with healthcare data models such as the Tuva Project.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field; Master’s preferred.
  • 5+ years of data engineering experience, including hands-on delivery on a cloud data platform and modern data warehouse, with experience working with healthcare data across clinical, operational, and financial domains.
  • (Preferred) Microsoft Certified: Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate (DP-600).
  • (Preferred) Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate, or Azure AI Engineer Associate (AI-102).
  • (Nice to have) Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300).
